Strengthening families, embracing diversity, creating opportunities. Together for a Strong North Rhine-Westphalia.

Democracy begins in everyday life. How can families continue to engage in dialogue in the face of populist or misanthropic statements and strengthen democratic values? The LAG Familie NRW cordially invites interested individuals to its online event, “The Family as a Place of Democracy in Turbulent Times,” on September 29 at 7 p.m.

Through its “Gemeinsam Digital! Kreativ mit Medien” initiative, the German Library Association supports forward-looking projects aimed at promoting digital reading among children and young people. The goal is to provide additional educational opportunities, particularly for young people from families facing significant challenges. Applications may be submitted through September 30, 2026.

With the new State Resource Center for Rainbow Families, the state is promoting family diversity. The center supports queer families and continues to expand support services—particularly in rural areas. At the same time, it raises awareness among professionals and counseling centers about the realities of life for rainbow families.

With its new Family Report, the state government presents a detailed assessment of the living conditions of families in North Rhine-Westphalia. It addresses key topics ranging from family diversity and education to paid work and caregiving, as well as poverty, housing, social participation, health, and coping with multiple crises.

The North Rhine-Westphalia state prize is entering its third round. Under the motto "Family community 2026. A home. For families", municipalities in NRW are invited to submit their overall family policy concepts or individual projects by July 17, 2026.

In order to increase the uptake of the education and participation package, Familienportal.NRW provides municipalities, institutions and organizations with compact information and print materials such as posters, flyers and postcards free of charge and in multiple languages. The postcards are now also available in Arabic and Ukrainian!
