Siegen can look back on more than 800 years of city history. Around 105,000 inhabitants live in Germany's greenest city. Of these, around 17 percent are under the age of 18, and around a third of the population has a history of immigration. Volunteering is lively with many associations and initiatives.
Siegen shows how a modern city with a high quality of life not only welcomes families, but also supports and actively accompanies them. With the family office, the city is making an important contribution to the local infrastructure for families and sending a clear signal for more family friendliness.
The family office offers low-threshold support, creates trust and promotes participation. With its combination of welcoming culture, advice and networking, Siegen shows how access for families can be designed. This convinced the jury. The city was awarded the Landespreis für familienfreundliche Kommunen 2025 in the category "Individual family policy project".
