Fields of action
Family-friendly and family-oriented action is a focus of municipal work. Cities, districts and municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia are launching numerous innovative ideas and support services for local families. These take into account the diversity of families and their different needs.
In order to give all children and young people in the state the same opportunities for education and participation, many local authorities are developing solutions that increase the use of state benefits from the education and participation package (BuT), for example. These benefits (e.g. for school and daycare excursions, lunchtime meals, learning support) help to sustainably improve the development opportunities of children and young people at risk of poverty in particular.
Now available in other languages: Postcards on the education and participation package
In order to increase the uptake of the education and participation package, Familienportal.NRW provides municipalities, institutions and organizations with compact information and print materials such as posters, flyers and postcards free of charge and in multiple languages. The postcards are now also available in Arabic and Ukrainian!
State prize "Family Community" 2025 awarded
Under the motto "Family. Community. Cohesion.", the North Rhine-Westphalian state government is once again recognizing municipalities that are particularly committed to family friendliness on the ground. The towns of Siegen, Vreden, Lennestadt and Nettersheim were the winners with their concepts. The award ceremony will take place on October 28 in Düsseldorf.

Auf dem Familienportal.NRW stehen ab sofort Informationen und kostenlos abrufbare Printmaterialien wie Poster, Postkarten und Flyer zur Bestellung von Jobcentern und Kommunen bereit. Die mehrsprachigen Informationsflyer sind in Deutsch, Englisch, Italienisch, Polnisch, Rumänisch, Türkisch und in Leichter Sprache verfügbar.
