Text last updated: 2025-11-03

Taking children and young people with you

Located directly on the Dutch border, the town of Vreden covers an area of 135 square kilometers. The approximately 23,000 inhabitants not only live in Vreden itself, but are also spread across five parish villages and five farming communities.

Vreden has set itself the goal of reaching out to and involving all children and young people. With its YouthCampus, the city is setting a strong example for modern youth work. It is the central place for children and young people to meet and participate.

State prize for family-friendly communities 2025

With the JugendCampus, Vreden is addressing a target group that is underrepresented in many family policy concepts. The digital infrastructure, the participation and the link to education and work make the project a pioneer in municipal youth work - this convinced the jury. For this, Vreden was awarded the state prize for family-friendly municipalities 2025 in the category "Individual family policy project".

We present the JugendCampus Vreden here. You can find more information on this and the North Rhine-Westphalia award for family-friendly municipalities in the sidebar.

YouthCampus Vreden: Digital innovation meets participation

The JugendCampus Vreden is the heart of youth work - a modern place of experience and development for children and young people aged 8 to 21. A wide range of activities for young people take place here. A special feature is the shuttle bus, which takes young people from the surrounding villages and farming communities to the JugendCampus and back home again.

Offers at the JugendCampus Vreden include:

  • YouthCafé as a meeting place
  • Art and culture workshop
  • Trend sports hall with climbing wall and trampolines for children, teenagers and young adults up to the age of 21
  • Youth office
  • Skate court
  • Nature workshop
  • Mini playing fields and bouncy cushions
  • Facilities for beach volleyball and a low ropes course

But the JugendCampus can also be found digitally: Children and young people can book their own activities via the JugendCampus app. Local clubs and training and internship opportunities in the area are also just a click away.

Information on all offers and facilities can be found here.
