The Child Protection Association: For a child-friendly society

The Kinderschutzbund campaigns nationwide for fair, non-violent and child-friendly living conditions. The NRW state association and its local chapters offer families in North Rhine-Westphalia concrete help - from toddler groups and family mentors to courses for strong parents. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Child and Youth Welfare Act are at the heart of its commitment.

The Familienportal.NRW asked the Kinderschutzbund NRW to briefly present its work, goals and commitment.

What are the goals of the Kinderschutzbund NRW?

The Kinderschutzbund is active nationwide as a lobby for children's interests and their families.

It campaigns for more opportunities for young people to have a say and co-determination. Its actions are based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Child and Youth Welfare Act

The Kinderschutzbund takes its mission to exert political influence and create and maintain child- and family-friendly living conditions seriously.

Who is the association addressing?

The Kinderschutzbund provides help for families in almost 100 local associations in NRW. We represent the children's point of view and thus address all families in whose care children grow up.

How are children in families supported in concrete terms?

By easing the burden on families with toddler groups, family mentors, learning mentors and resilience mentors. But also through everyday education in self-help groups, seminars, exhibitions, brochures and "Strong parents, strong children" course series. We teach families to become aware of their creative competence and to get involved in voluntary work, to act politically and promote social participation through language courses and the child and youth helpline "Nummer gegen Kummer".

What are the three most pressing issues at the moment?

  1. Strengthening children's rights, because children are children - not small adults. They need special care and support.
  2. Protecting children and young people from violence, because they have a right to grow up without violence.
  3. Supporting families, because parents are central to their children's lives and have a special responsibility that we recognize, support and strengthen.

Why is it worth getting involved in the association's work?

  • Together, families can achieve more, support each other and use each other's synergies. We promote networks and self-help campaigns.
  • With us at the Kinderschutzbund, people can volunteer and help to make life easier for children and their families through fun and games.
  • We rely on donations and use them in a targeted manner for families.
