Statewide Family Celebration for International Family Equality Day (IFED)

On May 4, 2025, rainbow families from all over North Rhine-Westphalia gathered for a day of action to mark International Family Equality Day (IFED), to demonstrate for their rights, raise awareness, and network. This year, the Schlossgarten in Münster opened its gates and invited attendees to enjoy a refreshing day outdoors. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., there was a colorful program of activities for parents and children.

Familiendialog.NRW: What Do Rainbow Families Need?

A family dialogue for rainbow families was held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. as an open event, with Family Minister Josefine Paul also in attendance. Together, they discussed the question, “What do rainbow families need?” Participants had the opportunity to speak directly with the minister, share their experiences, and exchange ideas.

The results of the family dialogue will be incorporated into the North Rhine-Westphalia Family Report 2026, which serves as the basis for setting the course for the state’s family policy.

Parents and families who participated in the Family Dialogue had the option of arranging childcare for their children. Registration for the Family Dialogue was not required.

As part of the Familiendialog.NRW initiative for rainbow families, many valuable experiences and perspectives have already been gathered. To shed light on an even wider range of life realities, the dialogue is now continuing in the form of an online survey.

The event took place as part of the statewide day of action marking International Family Equality Day (IFED). The Rainbow Families NRW Resource Center organized the Family Day in collaboration with Aidshilfe Münster and other local partners.
