The common denominator: the big family

The Association of Families with Many Children was founded on the initiative of committed multi-child families. It promotes, protects and supports large families with the aim of making the realities of life for large families visible and positively changing the view of multi-child families.

The Familienportal.NRW asked the Verband kinderreicher Familien NRW to briefly introduce its work, goals and commitment.

What are the goals of the Verband kinderreicher Familien NRW?

We are committed to ensuring that large families are seen and strengthened in politics, society and everyday life. Our aim is to create fair framework conditions for multi-child families, offer advice in challenging life situations and make the special contribution of families with "3 plus" children visible for the future of us all. We want large families to be valued, supported and given the same opportunities as single and two-child families.

Who is the association addressing?

We are aimed at families who have or would like to have many children. This also includes families with disabilities, with a migration background or with special living arrangements. A wealth of children is diverse and colorful - there is not just one picture. Equally important to us are supporting members, interested people, politicians and the general public who want to support and strengthen large families.

How are the families supported?

We provide advice and tips for everyday life on an equal footing and with specialist expertise, create places for people to meet and exchange ideas and represent the interests of families with many children in politics, the media and society. We organize events, connect families locally and work to ensure that their voices are heard. This is how we show: Large families are strong and not alone.

What are the three most pressing issues at the moment?

We are campaigning for a multi-child family card in the cultural and leisure sector as well as for an affordable neighborhood concept suitable for multi-child families with affordable apartments and homes for large families. Other important issues include the implementation of family education trips, which are supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, with integrative leisure activities that naturally include children with disabilities.

Why is it worth getting involved in the association's work?

Whoever takes part is part of a large community that shares similar experiences. Together we are stronger, can make our demands louder and make everyday family life easier. Members will find advice, networks and contributors who enjoy volunteering and working for families. Getting involved means actively shaping the future of large families and making visible how valuable our life model with three or more children is.
