Shaping fatherhood: active, conscious, present and equal!

The Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Väterarbeit NRW is committed to a modern fatherhood policy that promotes equality, makes fathers visible and creates family-friendly structures - in politics, the world of work and society. It sees itself as an interface between local initiatives for fatherhood work and state policy makers.

The Familienportal.NRW asked the LAG Väterarbeit NRW to briefly introduce its work, goals and commitment.

What goals does the LAG Väterarbeit NRW pursue?

The LAG Väterarbeit NRW is committed to recognizing and promoting active fatherhood. The aim is to anchor fatherhood policy as a cross-sectional task in family, equality, education and labor market policy. Fathers should be encouraged to take on responsibility in the family. This requires a political framework, opportunities for exchange and a father-friendly work and family culture.

Who is the association addressing?

The target group of LAG Väterarbeit NRW are committed fathers, family and youth welfare professionals, providers of fathers' networks and political decision-makers. Our work is aimed at all those who want to strengthen fathers in their active role, facilitate exchange and improve the social framework conditions for equal parenthood.

How are the target groups supported?

The LAG Väterarbeit NRW supports professionals through professional exchange, state-wide networking and political advocacy. It organizes specialist events and provides materials to strengthen fathers in their active role. We also provide political impetus to promote family-friendly conditions for equal parenthood and offer specialist advice.

What are the three most pressing issues at the moment?

  1. Establishing active fatherhood politically: Fatherhood policy must become an integral part of family, equality and labor market policy.
  2. Creating father-friendly structures: Flexible working hours, parental leave in partnership and recognition of paternal commitment are required.
  3. Strengthening offers: fathers need spaces for exchange, reflection and support - close to their lives and accessible to all.

Why is it worth getting involved in the association's work?

Participation in the LAG Väterarbeit NRW offers the opportunity to actively participate in the further development of fatherhood policy, pool expertise and provide political impetus. Target groups can network, learn from each other and jointly create structures that strengthen fathers. This is how equality is shaped in practice - through exchange, commitment and shared responsibility.
