Midwives are valuable companions during pregnancy and the postpartum period. (Expectant) mothers who have statutory health insurance are entitled to the support of a midwife before and after the birth. The costs are covered by health insurance.

Simply explained

Midwifery assistance includes services provided by freelance midwives in the area of prenatal care and support as well as obstetrics, during the postpartum period and in the event of breastfeeding difficulties or nutritional problems in the child.

What do I get?

Midwifery services include:

  • maternity care and antenatal care,
  • birth assistance,
  • services during the postpartum period up to 12 weeks after the birth and
  • other services, such as advice for mothers with breastfeeding difficulties or postnatal exercises with group instruction.
