Media in everyday family life

Media also play a central role in the everyday lives of young adults aged 18 and over - whether for information, entertainment or communication. However, the risks of the digital media world, such as media addiction, remain relevant for this age group too. As parents, you can continue to play an important role by engaging in an open and equal exchange with your adult child. Show an interest in their media habits and stay in touch about current issues. By engaging in a respectful dialog as equals, in which there is also room for critical discussions, you can help to promote conscious and healthy media use. In this section, you will find numerous suggestions and tips on how young adults can further develop their media skills and arm themselves against negative influences from the digital world. Both parents and young adults can find valuable support here to help them use media consciously and responsibly during this important phase of their lives.

How do families live in North Rhine-Westphalia? What challenges shape their daily lives? And what kind of support do they want? Family life in North Rhine-Westphalia is more colorful and diverse than ever before. The Family Report brings together data, analyses, and practical perspectives. It describes the living situations of families, contextualizes developments, and thus provides an important foundation for the state’s ongoing family policy work. The focus is on topics such as family diversity, coping with social crises, the economic situation of families, social participation, and balancing family and work.  The voices and experiences of families in the state also play an important role in the Family Report. As part of statewide family dialogues, families, parents, children, and family policy stakeholders engaged in conversation with one another. The dialogues provided a space for exchange, feedback from everyday life, and new perspectives on the issues that matter to families in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Family Report thus combines scientific analysis with real-life experiences. It focuses on families in North Rhine-Westphalia and aims to help ensure that family policy remains practical, forward-looking, and effective. Read the Family Report here and learn more about the “Familiendialog.NRW” dialogue series.
