Text last updated: 2026-06-16

Diversity in Action

Siegen looks back on more than 800 years of city history. About 105,000 residents call Germany’s greenest major city home. Of these, about 17 percent are under 18 years old, and roughly one-third of the population has an immigrant background. Volunteerism is thriving, with many clubs and initiatives.

Modern and family-friendly

Siegen demonstrates how a modern city with a high quality of life not only welcomes families but also supports and actively assists them. Through its Family Office, the city makes an important contribution to the local infrastructure for families and sends a clear signal in favor of greater family-friendliness.

State Award for Family-Friendly Municipalities 2025

The Family Office offers low-threshold support, builds trust, and promotes participation. Through a combination of a welcoming atmosphere, counseling, and networking, Siegen demonstrates how to create access for families. This impressed the jury. The city was awarded the State Prize for Family-Friendly Municipalities 2025 in the category “Individual Family Policy Project.”

The Family Office: A Gateway to Participation and Support

Family-friendliness is a core principle of Siegen’s urban development. At the heart of this effort is the Family Office, a central, low-threshold point of contact that brings together the wide range of counseling and support services for families under one roof. Here, families find a place for conversation and exchange. This also facilitates access to further services and support.

Family Office Contact Point

The Family Office offers support for questions on the following topics, among others:

  • Balancing family and work
  • Childcare
  • Information for parents
  • Family members in need of care
  • Information on financial support options
  • Networking and training in various care services

Breaking down barriers and promoting participation

The Family Office is located at various sites throughout the city. It is accessible to all families. Through outreach counseling, families can also be reached where they live and spend their time.
