Work-Life Balance Progress Index
Measuring Family-Friendliness
The Work-Life Balance Progress Index helps companies track their progress and develop a family-friendly corporate culture.
Many companies are already on the path toward a sustainable and family-friendly HR policy: With the online tool “Work-Life Balance Progress Index” from “Erfolgsfaktor Familie,” you can track your progress in HR policy and see how you compare to other companies in your industry in the evaluation. In addition, decision-makers can identify areas with potential for improvement and receive tailored recommendations for further development.
Family-Friendliness: An Industry Comparison
The Work-Life Balance Progress Index is an initiative of the “Family as a Success Factor” corporate program run by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth. It was developed in collaboration with companies, the Federal Association of Human Resources Managers (BPM), and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK).
Companies that commit to the guidelines of the Work-Life Balance Progress Index receive the “Work-Life Balance Progress Index” participation seal and may use it in their communications. In doing so, they affirm that the aspect of work-life balance is reflected in their company’s principles. In concrete terms, this means, for example, designing working conditions in a way that takes into account the interests of both management and employees. To date, company management has often rated family-friendliness higher than the employees themselves. This is frequently due to the fact that existing work-life balance offerings are not communicated transparently or even fail to meet employees’ needs.
The Progress Index helps you tailor and communicate your work-life balance offerings more effectively. Registered companies can enter their data on key metrics such as economic sector, field of activity, number of employees, and age structure. Based on a total of twelve key metrics, your company’s family-friendliness becomes not only measurable but also comparable. This allows you to better assess where you stand in a Germany-wide industry comparison. The data is analyzed anonymously and used for research and communication purposes.
Measures supporting a family-friendly HR policy have been proven not only to increase motivation, satisfaction, and productivity within the company but also to enhance a company’s appeal. Highly qualified employees, in particular, specifically seek out companies that can offer them not only an attractive workplace but also a balance between family, career, and leisure time. The topic of a family-friendly corporate culture is therefore becoming increasingly important in both internal and external corporate communications.
