The number of the month - Archive

Families in NRW take on responsibility and achieve a lot every day. Every month, we present a figure here that provides an insight into everyday family life.

Does your family eat together every day?

Communal meals are a daily routine for the majority of families, where everyone comes together. Around 88% eat together at least once a day. In 2 out of 3 families, children and young people have a say in the choice of food and in around half of families they help to cook. This promotes well-being, self-determination and the ability to actively shape their own health.

Parents get involved in voluntary work

Time is often in short supply for mothers and fathers. This makes their commitment all the more remarkable: around 44% of people who live with children under the age of 14 are involved in voluntary work. Parents are particularly often involved in daycare centers, schools and sports clubs. This strengthens social cohesion and shows children what responsibility, co-determination and community mean.

We asked you: Whether voluntary or not - where do you do charitable work in your area?

A child goes through up to 12 infections per year

The cold season is particularly challenging for parents. Because when a child is ill, mothers and fathers have to organize, care for and cheer them up. And it can also cause worry: Why does my child have a cold again? But up to the end of pre-school age in particular, up to 12 infections per year are quite normal, as the immune system still has to develop. The good news is that the number of infections decreases steadily from school entry.

We asked you: How is your family coping during the cold season?
