Which location should I specify?
For example, your place of residence if you want to apply for a passport or the company location if you want to register a business.
For the declaration of maternity you will need:
- Your identity card, passport or ID card.
- Birth certificates of the mother and father.
- After the birth: the birth certificate of your child.
- Before the birth: the maternity passport.
Notarization at the youth welfare office or registry office is free of charge. Notarization at a notary or at the local court may incur costs.
Simply explained
Maternity must be recognized if
- the parents are not married and the foreign home law of the mother or father requires maternity recognition.
- it is required by the law of the state in which the child has its habitual residence.
Only through maternity recognition do the mother and child have a legal relationship with each other from the perspective of the foreign state. Only then does the mother receive custody of her child.
What requirements must be met?
You don't have to wait until your child is born to have your maternity recognized. Certification is possible before the birth, but also at any time afterwards.
Recognition can also be made after the death of the child and for stillborn children.
