Am I pregnant?
Pregnant: yes or no?
The exciting question arises at the latest when your period doesn't come at the expected time: "Is a baby on the way?". There are several signs that indicate pregnancy. However, to be certain, you should always take a pregnancy test and have the test confirmed by your gynecologist.
What are the typical signs of pregnancy?
You should bear in mind that every woman, her body and the course of every pregnancy are unique. This is why pregnancy symptoms occur differently in expectant mothers. Different symptoms may also occur in a second pregnancy than the first.
Signs of pregnancy include the following symptoms:
All symptoms of pregnancy are triggered by fertilization and the release of different hormones. Most symptoms are completely normal and need not cause you any further concern. However, you should listen particularly carefully to your body and belly during this time. If you notice any abnormalities or feel unsure, be sure to talk to your gynecologist or midwife.
How does a pregnancy test work?
You can obtain a pregnancy test without a prescription from a pharmacy or drugstore. It is easy to carry out at home. Hold the test stick under the urine stream as described in the instruction leaflet or collect some urine in a cup and dip the test into it. You can read the result in the viewing window after just a few minutes.
The test reacts to the pregnancy hormone hCG in the pregnant woman's urine. The hCG hormone rises sharply after conception. It can be detected in the urine from the 10th day after fertilization of the egg.
If the test is negative, you are probably not pregnant. However, the hCG level may not have been high enough. You should therefore carry out the test again a few days later to be on the safe side.
