What happens during puberty?
The first signs of puberty are appearing earlier and earlier than most parents expect. It begins with the production of sex hormones. In girls, this happens on average from the age of 9, in boys from the age of 11. This is the trigger for the gradual remodeling of the brain and body shapes. Most girls are sexually mature at the age of 14, boys at 16. Body growth takes a little longer. It usually ends around the age of 16 for girls, but not until 19 or 20 for boys. Please note: These figures are average values. Every child develops at its own pace. Deviations from these ages are completely normal and no cause for concern.
