Are you insured with a statutory health insurance fund?
If so, you may also be able to insure your family.
You don't have to pay any contributions for this.
But:
You must submit an application to your health insurance fund.

What is family insurance?
Family insurance is health insurance for your family.
This means:
Your children or your spouse are also insured.
When can you get family insurance?
You can apply for family insurance
if:
- you have statutory health insurance
- and your family lives in Germany.
Which persons can be insured?
These persons from your family can also be insured:
Spouse or spouse's partner:
- The person is not covered by statutory health insurance.
- They are not self-employed.
- They do not have private health insurance.
- They earn little or no money.
Children:
Children can also be insured if they are
An adult child has a disability:
And the child therefore cannot work?
Then this child can remain covered by family insurance.
Even if they are older than 25.
Stepchildren, foster children, grandchildren:
They can also be insured if:
- the children also live in the household.
- Or: you pay for the children's lives.
What do you need for the application?
You will need various documents.
For example:
- A copy of your wife's or husband's salary certificate
- or a copy of the current income tax statement
- Your child is 23 years old or older:
School or study certificate
Sometimes you need other documents.
For example:
- Pension certificates
- Proof of assets
Check with your health insurance provider.
Where do you submit the application?
You submit the application to your health insurance fund.

You can then choose:

The application is free of charge.
Family insurance does not cost any extra money either.
