The law is called the Children's Education Act
(abbreviated as KiBiz)

It states: The amount of the parental contribution is on a sliding scale.

That means:
The amount depends on:

• How much money do the parents earn?
• How many children are in the family?
• How many hours a day is the child in childcare?

Child care is free for the last 2 years before the child starts school.

In some cities, it’s even free earlier.

You do not have to pay a parent contribution
if you receive one of these forms of assistance:

• Child Allowance
• Basic Security Allowance
• Social Assistance
• Housing Allowance
• Benefits under the Asylum Seekers Act

Important:

You must submit an application.

Only then will you be exempt from paying the parental contribution.

To apply for an exemption from the parent fee, you will need:

• the childcare contract with the daycare center
• or the childcare agreement with the child daycare provider
• proof of your benefits

• Basic security benefit
