Education and participation package - more opportunities for your child!
Your child would like to learn to play the guitar or play sport? A school trip lasting several days is coming up? Are there gaps in their knowledge in math or English and your child needs learning support to achieve their learning goals? Parents want to make all this possible for their children. But at the same time, many have to ask themselves how they are going to pay for it.
This is exactly what the benefits from the education and participation package are for. Families who do not have sufficient financial resources are entitled to subsidies. More information can be found in the explanatory film:
Your way to the application
You can get the benefits of the education and participation package (BuT) without much effort. If you receive child supplement or housing benefit, a short application is necessary, otherwise it is often sufficient to submit evidence.
You can apply online and upload supporting documents on the social platform. Simply select the situation that applies to you and off you go.

What documents do I need for the education and participation package?
Depending on the case, you will need these documents:
- If you receive child supplement or housing benefit, a separate application is required to claim education and participation benefits. Please remember to enclose your current notice of approval for housing benefit or child allowance as well as proof of the costs of the specific measure with the application.
If you have already incurred expenses, you can also submit the relevant receipts.
- If you receive citizen's allowance, assistance towards living expenses, basic income support in old age and in the event of full reduction in earning capacity or asylum seeker benefits, no separate application for education and participation benefits is required. However, please submit the relevant evidence for the individual benefits, such as a school trip.

The grants from the education and participation package ensure that all children and young people can take advantage of the wide range of educational opportunities and shared experiences. Every child deserves to participate in social life and develop their talents.
What requirements must be met?
You are entitled to benefits from the education and participation package if you or your child receive one of the following benefits:
- Bürgergeld
- Hilfe zum Lebensunterhalt
- Grundsicherung im Alter und bei Erwerbsminderung
- Wohngeld
- Kinderzuschlag
- Asylbewerberleistungen
Exceptionally, you may also be entitled to benefits from the education package in accordance with Social Code II or Social Code XII if your child or you as a parent do not receive any of the aforementioned social benefits. You as parents do not receive any of the social benefits mentioned, but the child's specific educational and participation needs cannot be covered. In this case, please contact the local job center.
Benefits from the education package are generally paid for children up to the age of 25. Benefits for participation in cultural, sports and leisure activities (e.g. baby swimming courses, sports clubs or music schools) are paid up to the age of 18.
What do I get?
Subsidies are paid for participation in social and cultural life, personal school supplies, school transport, school trips and excursions, learning support and communal lunches at nurseries and schools.
